A Gadget is a small electronic object which is programmed to perform a specific function. In the modern era, we’ve seen a revolution in technical advancement and a gadget is an outcome of the same. A gadget could be a device or an appliance. Today, the word gadget could be generally used for mobile phones highly as mobile phones have a great impact on changing our life other than phones smart watches, navigation devices, portable laptops, wireless Bluetooth headphones, digital cameras and several other innovations that are advanced, convenient to use and popular in the modern world. One of the most acclaimed gadgets of today includes smartphones, tablets and gaming consoles like Apple’s iPhone and iPad tablet, Sony’s PlayStation etc.

Generally, gadgets are often referred to as Gizmos. However, the software industry uses another term for the same i.e. Widgets. A widget is nothing but a computer application that is programmed to execute multiple independent features. Their interface is programmed such that they can work in a common environment as multiple widgets. Initially, the word “widget” was used for a basic GUI (Graphical User Interface) but however, but the widget now refers to applications that could run on multiple platforms.

Devices such as Smartphones and Tablets are programmed to operate with the ability to exploit the usage of the internet. If you have an active internet connection in your smartphone, you can get daily news and weather forecasts, get directions for places using satellite maps, listen to international radio broadcasts etc. You need not switch on the television to find out what’s happening in the world. You can get all the information with a mere touch on the screen of a handheld device. Thus, the advent of such modern technology and gadgets has made life quite easier. In fact, science has made us do the impossible like travelling in space, walking on the moon, and flying in the air. All these are the outcomes of nothing but the human brain

Now even when life has become so convenient with these gadgets around, we cannot overlook the drawbacks. They’ve made us dependent. People rely on gadgets to finish off the most important of their work. They rely on smartphones and the internet to pay important bills. The drawbacks could also be fatal. The usage of multimedia smartphones has compromised road safety. People drive cars with one hand on the steering wheel and the other one typing texts on their smartphones. Some electronic gadgets even come with unnoticed risks. Their batteries can get overheated and could even explode leading to an injury. Mobile phones emit harmful radiations which could even lead to a permanent loss of hearing ability. Thus, like everything has its pros and cons, gadgets come with their fairs and flaws.

In addition to the benefits of modern gadgets, people should also be aware of all the threats posed by them. It’s up to our awareness and a basic understanding of how we utilize the gadgets by staying away from any potential risks and adverse effects.
